First birthday parties are so much fun! It's as much of a celebration for the parents and family as it is for the kiddo. This 'Fun to Be One' birthday theme was a fun and bright first birthday party that was more of a classic, whimsical birthday party with bright colors and lots of sprinkles.
One of my favorite party tips is to double food as decor. It adds to the theme and you spend less on decor because the food complements the rest of the party. Plus as your guests leave you can send the leftovers or decorations home with them!

'One is Fun' Themed Food
For food, we had the party mid-afternoon so we focused on snacks. We had cake, adorable sugar cookies made by LauraBelle Bakes, fruit kabobs, veggie cups with hummus and some pretzels and pirate's booty. Having a few things tied to the theme made the table extra cute. We used these plates in a variety of colors, and this flatware.
These little veggie cups are always such a hit! My mom first made them for our 'Two the Farm' party and it's a nice way for guests to be able to grab and go with them. The hummus cups are portable and it's easiest to stick them right in these Chinet cups!

For drinks I kept it pretty simple and had a variety of Poppi flavors and water. It was pretty low-key and everyone seemed to like the Poppi!
Cake and Desserts
For both the smash cake and the party cake we used cakes from Dolce Bakery. I loved that they had fun cake designs ready to pick from. I used their cake for my son's golf-themed birthday party too!
I went with a basic cake and added this topper, then this inflatable number 1. I also added one of the amazing sugar cookies as a cake decoration too.

The cookies were such a hit for the party! I worked with Laura Belle Bakery and was so impressed. She designed them and shipped them. They went very quickly from the dessert table and worked great as decor too. Bonus- when you have custom sugar cookies you can count them as the favor too!

First Birthday Party Decorations
The decor for this party was so fun and nostalgic! We used this design for the invitations. For the color scheme, bright and poppy colors were my go to. I bought this balloon arch from Lushra in the 6ft size Check out this tutorial around how to make a balloon arch if you've never built a garland, and this one if you're looking for tips and tricks to hang one! If you're going to make your own balloon garland I highly recommend picking up one of these balloon pumps.
I used my arches that you've seen at my 'FORE'-themed birthday party, both a fall-themed and bow-themed baby shower and this Rapunzel birthday party.

Maybe my favorite piece of decor was the streamer backdrop! It made such an impact behind the food table. I used this cake stand, white disposable utensils and these plates in a few different colors.
We used a vintage high chair, it's the same one we used at my son's rookie of the year birthday party and this first bee-day birthday party. This wooden garland tied under it dressed it up a bit too. I love this high chair it just looks and feels more special. I made a balloon mosaic (similar to this barn mosaic or this windmill) number one using this pattern.

Activities
There was a bounce house in the backyard and the kiddos had so much fun playing after having a few sweet treats. It's nice to be able to send everyone outside so you can start clean up, and it's also nice to spread things out a bit! Other than that we just let the kids play and kept it pretty informal which I loved!
Tips for Throwing a Classic First Birthday Party
- Simple is perfect! Pick a few things you really want to include and focus on those. For me I wanted the food table to be fun and his high chair a focal point.
- Borrow what you can! I borrowed my mom's high chair and used a lot of serving dishes/pieces I already had.
- I prepped as much as possible ahead of time. My mom cut up the veggies and had them in gallon baggies ready to go, then the fruit kabobs too. So all I had to do was set everything out.
I hope this helps you plan your own first birthday party! Let me know of any questions in the comments!
