Make Binoculars from Toilet Paper Rolls as a Party Favor and Craft

If you’re looking for a fun and easy DIY project to use during your camping birthday party, look no further than making binoculars from toilet paper rolls! This craft is perfect for kids and could work as a party favor as well as a craft during your event. It also provides a great opportunity to repurpose materials you already have lying around the house.

I love when favors double up as a part of the party. These plastic canteens were perfect for kids to use with their drinks and also take home. I've done this with our golfing and car-themed birthday parties too, it also helps with cleanup when you're sending the activity home!

Supplies

  • toilet paper cardboard rolls
  • thread, yarn or string
  • hole punch
  • hot glue gun and glue sticks
  • Decorating supplies- stickers, markers, crayons, glitter... you can use whatever you have on hand or that goes with your party theme.

Directions

  1. I recommend starting by glueing together your cardboard toilet paper rolls. This makes it a whole lot easier for kiddos to work with. Pre-assemble even depending on the ages of the kiddos attending your party so they can just decorate and enjoy them.
  2. Using your hole punch, punch a hole in each toilet paper roll towards the 'top'.
  3. Measure out about an arms length of yarn. You don't want to make it too short so that a kiddo can't wear the binoculars.
  4. String your yarn or ribbon through the first hole and knot it around the hole.
  5. Repeat and knot the other end of the yarn.
  6. Have the kids decorate during the party and use them during a scavenger hunt!

Tips

  • I started collecting toilet paper rolls a few months out and would just throw them in a grocery bag to keep them all together and ready to prep.
  • Prep is helpful, especially if you have younger kids attending. I recommend glueing together the sets of rolls so they can either do the hole punches and yarn or just do the decorating.
  • If you need extra cardboard you can cut a paper towel roll in half too!
