Crisp apples and fall flavors- of course you need to add caramel! These caramel apple nachos are a fun and unique twist on the classic caramel apple dessert. Whether you’re planning a family gathering, a casual get-together, a carnival or camping-themed birthday party, this easy dessert is an instant classic. I'm already planning to bring it to our neighborhood halloween bash!
Caramel apple nachos is just a fun way of telling people how you're going to serve this dessert. Instead of chips and cheese you use thin sliced apples and drizzle caramel and fun toppings over them. This dessert can be made in as little as 15-20 minutes, and you can make it as custom as you'd like. I used store-bought caramel for this to make it a quick and easy dessert but you can make your own caramel too if that's your preference.
Ingredients
- 4-5 Granny Smith Apples (you can use others, but this is my preference.)
- 1 bag of meltable caramels
- Toppings of your choice. I used cashews, (crushed) Reeses bites, heath bar topping and chocolate chips. You could use any type of nut or mini marshmallows too!
Directions
- Cut your apple into thin slices. I used a paring knife.
- Spread them out on a piece of parchment paper. You can use a cute plate or a baking sheet like I did but you will want to use parchment paper otherwise it gets a bit messy.
- If you want to try to get them to last longer add a bit of lemon juice to the apple when cutting it.
Making Your Caramel and Nachos
- Heat your caramel on the stovetop with 2 tablespoon of water.
- Once the caramel has completely melted, drizzle it over your apple slices. You can also prep the caramel ahead of time if you're not serving these right away.
- After adding your caramel to the apple slices, top with your toppings of choice!
Serving and Storage
The one downside to caramel apple nachos is that you can't really store them easily. You either want to serve them immediately after making them or shortly after. The plus side is that they're so quick to make and can even be a group activity.
Tips and Caramel Apple Topping Ideas
- Set everything out for people to help top and make their own, that way it's a snack and an activity.
- Get creative with your toppings! You could dedicate certain sections of the 'nachos' to just sweet or savory toppings. Mini marshmallows in different shapes or colors, sprinkles, granola or even a pinch of sea salt would be great.
- My favorite topping was the heath toffee pieces. Anything you'd put on a caramel apple would be delicious on the nacho version.
- Try melting chocolate or even peanut butter and drizzling over your caramel apple slices too for another flavor/twist.
These caramel apple nachos are a fun treat and a creative way to serve your guests or family something special and customizable. It's a perfect fall celebratory snack!
