These jello grapes are perfect to make for a healthier snack, for kiddos to enjoy or just as a treat to keep in the freezer! You only need two ingredients for this recipe besides water. Grapes and jello! There are so many flavors of jello to choose from, you might just have to try them all to pick a favorite.
I've heard this snack called sour patch grapes and candy grapes, so you know it's a good one. The jello powder adds a sweet flavor to the crunchy frozen grape and kids can have fun helping make them too.
Other Treats to Try
- Rice Cake with Peanut Butter and Chocolate
- Jolly Rancher Cotton Candy- Homemade Candy Floss
- Grinch Fruit Kabob- A Simple Christmas Party Treat
Ingredients and Supplies
- Green grapes (you can use red or cotton candy flavored too)
- Jello in your flavor/sweetness preference of choice. You can use sugar-free, dye-free, jolly-rancher flavored.. whichever variety you prefer.
- Water (in a bowl or cup)
- toothpicks or kabobs
- You could also focus on one color and pour the powder into a ziploc baggie and then add the grapes and shake/roll them around.
- parchment paper or paper towels/foil
- baking sheet- I used a half sheet jelly pan so the grapes couldn't roll off the edge.
Steps
- Wash your grapes and take off the stems. You can use a vinegar wash or a fruit and vegetable wash if that's your preference. Rinse them off in a colander but keep the grapes wet, don't allow to dry completely.
- Open your jello packets and put the powder in a clear bowl, one bowl per color. I only used about ¼ of the packet of each color and made 8-10 grapes in each color, and still had powder left over.
- Put the grapes in a bowl filled with water. You can also use a glass of water and use them one at a time, I just found a bowl to be quicker and more convenient.
- Take a grape and add it to a toothpick. You can do this by hand but it's a lot cleaner and easier to use a toothpick to dip the grape into. Especially if you're making lots of colors and/or flavors.
- Dip the wet grape into the jello powder and coat the grape by rolling it around a bit.
- Place the now coated grape onto the pan.
- Once you've filled your baking sheet, put the grapes in the freezer for about an hour. The longer the better, but that's as long as I can normally wait to try them!
- Try out various flavor combinations to find your favorite!
- Store in the freezer.
Tips
- If you're looking for a quicker way to make these, pour your jello powder into a ziploc baggie and add your grapes. Shake them up and they'll be ready to go!
- You can also store in the refrigerator, they may just lose some of their powder and the grapes may start to get a big soggy/not be as crunchy.
- Leave them in the freezer longer for them to fully freeze.
