Baby showers are such a sweet and special time. I love how many different themes there are, whether it's a book theme or vintage airplanes it's special to see how each mama is reflected and loved on. This elephant baby shower was for my sister-in-law and there were so many personalized touches just for the mom and dad to be.
This was a couple's shower, which I think is becoming more popular! When planning a sweet little peanut shower we wanted to create a relaxed and fun atmosphere with a few cute baby touches throughout. It was a larger event so the decor was kept pretty simple.
Elephant Decorations
For the decor we had the mom and dad to be sit in front of an arch that had a balloon arch by it (COZY10 for 10% off at Lushra!) along with this elephant hot air balloon I made. This little project was so sweet but made me so happy! Bonus that the mom got to keep all the elephants we used in decorating! Check out this tutorial if you've never built a garland, and this one if you're looking for tips and tricks to hang one! If you're going to make your own balloon garland I highly recommend picking up one of these balloon pumps.
This little stroller with an elephant in it sat by the welcome sign. We found it on facebook marketplace and spray painted it. The elephant inside just tied into the theme! When we did a Parisian baby shower we filled it with florals and that was a sweet display too.
Elephant Baby Shower Centerpieces
I created a full tutorial here, but we had 3 main ideas for centerpieces. There were about 60-70 people attending this shower and so we planned on 9 tables. For the first centerpiece, we used a cake stand with a stuffed elephant on it holding a balloon. As adorable as he is, we knew we didn't want 9 of those! That's just a lot of stuffed elephants. We added toy blocks around the centerpiece to add a bit more texture to the simple displays.
For the second centerpiece we filled apothecary jars with shelled peanuts and surrounded them by bud vases. If you're going to use this idea please make sure your venue does not have any peanut restrictions and try to be thoughtful if any of your guests have allergies. They're contained, but you want people to feel comfortable! The third centerpiece was a larger vase surrounded by more bud vases. Using florals (I have two sets of these bud vases in clear and amber) is a great way to add dimension/texture too and can help round out a centerpiece.
Elephant Baby Shower Food
What time you pick for your shower will really help guide your menu. This shower was later afternoon, so it was more focused on snacks and dessert than a full meal. There were cute cupcakes with toppers, a variety of chips and snacks and bottles of water, sodas, etc.
My favorite part was this custom popcorn that was put in little treat bags! I like it when food can double as a favor for the party too. The mama to be picked custom flavors that she could give her guests to go home with them, or they could enjoy it on the spot!
Activities
It's always fun to have a few games or activities planned, I like to schedule them for in between presents. Especially with a larger shower like this! That way your guest or guests of honor can have a small break in between presents and being the center of attention for some fun. You can always ask if this is their preference, but I think it helps things go more smoothly and it's nice to take some of the pressure off!
Tips for Throwing a Baby Shower
- Simple is perfect! Pick a few things you really want to include and focus on those. Ask the mama what's most important to her. Some moms want a big focus on the food, for others they care more about the decorations and activities. It's going to vary and having that conversation is a big help!
- I have a stash of these 50 cent plates from Target in a variety of colors. It's easy to pull them out for any party/event and nice because you can wash and reuse them.
- I've also collected plain white plates from thrift stores in white that we use as an option too! It's nice to be able to have things on hand to use, it can really help the budget.
- Borrow what you can! I had the jars, bud vases, plates, basket from the hot air balloon and several other things for the shower we were able to pull in. If you have a few people helping plan the shower too it's nice to be able to ask to borrow things, most friends and family are happy to contribute to help!
