Do you have a train-loving toddler in your life? If so, a train themed birthday party might be right up your alley! My toddler is all about trains, so we decided to throw him the cutest Chugga Chugga Two Two party for his 2nd birthday - hop on and all aboard!
Planning a train birthday party was so much fun! Little kid parties are the best, whether your kiddo is really into donuts, cars or construction we've been there!
Food
We decided to incorporate a few of my son's favorite foods into train cars, which was a lot of fun and a huge hit with our guests. We put them in various dishes and used a white tablecloth with black tape to create a track. The snow covered trees and miniature trains were an added extra that we loved. It created a village type of feel.
A few items you might like:
- Similar dry erase signs
- Black tape
- Similar black engine
- Winterized trees and taller trees
- Miniature trains
The food was all lined up as if they were stops along the train track, which worked out perfectly! It was almost buffet style for people to snack as they talked and mingled.
Cupcake Details
Instead of a big cake, we used cupcakes with fun toppers for the party. It worked out perfectly! I still used a cake topper which made things even more festive. Our cake topper was one of our favorite pieces. We ordered it from Etsy. You can find it here.
Chugga Chugga Two Two Decorations and Favors
Who doesn't love a good balloon set? We found this one from Etsy and hung it behind the food table. It lasted a long time and we enjoyed keeping it in his room for a while after the party day!
After you boarded the train, you were invited to visit baggage claim to gather your goodies and treats. We loved the sweet nature of this little area, and each child loved their party favors.

More Train Birthday Decor
It was a chilly morning, so we decided to have the party in our garage. It worked out great! We used a few more balloons and for a fun but easy DIY decor piece I made a railroad crossing sign out of 2x4s and paper plates to hang outside. We also used a steam train on our decor table - complete with bubbles! I loved this sweet find. It was definitely a fan favorite.
Trains are an easier decor theme because of how versatile you can make them, so climb aboard and punch your tickets - your toddler's best birthday is the next destination.
