Dog Jersey and Dog Tutu Supplies
The first thing we bought is this adorable Penn State jersey! We got Penny a size Small. She is only 6.5 lbs, but I sized up for her because she's so so fluffy! This jersey is so cute on her, and they have plenty of other team jerseys to pick from if you're looking for another team. I knew it would be perfect for her dog cheerleader costume.
Next, I stopped into Michaels to pick up tulle and ribbon in Penn State Colors. Here is a list of what I used:
- White Glitter Tulle (Disclaimer: This is very glittery and very shedding!)
- Navy Tulle
- Navy Ribbon
- Scissors
How to Make The Tutu
This tutu is seriously so easy to make and it really makes the dog cheerleader costume come together! I started by measuring Penny's waist with the ribbon and making my cut with enough room to comfortably tie the tutu once finished. I left about 5 inches on either side, but I would make this slightly longer next time because I lost length once the tulle was added! Next, I cut the tulle into pieces of about 12 inches or so.
The last step is tying the tulle onto the ribbon! I folded the ribbon in half and looped the tulle over the ribbon. The easiest way to do this is grab the center "loop" of the tulle, and place the ribbon over the tulle about a half inch below the loop. Then take the two tails of the tulle and feed them into the loop with the ribbon sandwiched in between. Its so so easy and quick! I tightened the little loop knot and it didn't budge!
I alternated navy and white, but the options for this are endless. You could use any number of colors or just stick to one for your dog cheerleader costume!
I added a small bow using the ribbon to finish off her outfit. She's just the cutest! I hope you enjoyed this easy tutorial for a quick dog cheerleader costume. I would love to hear if you try this at home and how it turns out!
xoxo,
Mel
