Boo Bags- A Fun Halloween Game

Jump to Recipe Print Recipe

Boo Bags are a fun game that you can play in your neighborhood or with friends! It's a bit like the old 'May Day' game, where you'd drop a basket off and then run and hide. You don't have to hide when you 'boo' a neighbor... but you do want to encourage your kiddos not to get caught which will create some fun Ring footage, ha!

You can buy a bag or a basket to do this too... but I thought it would be fun to make it a craft project and make my own little Halloween-themed bags that we can start the game off with. We're planning to start the game on October 1st in our neighborhood!

To make your boo bag, you'll need just a few basic craft supplies you probably have around the house already. Kiddos can definitely help with this craft too! You can also use a store-bought bag or even just wrap it with wrapping paper if you're short on time, but I had a lot of fun making these little bat bags for our game!

Supplies

  • construction paper
  • paper lunch bags
  • paint

Directions

  1. Cut your paper lunch bag into a smaller size.
  2. Also cut out 'wings' from construction paper, set aside.
  3. Paint the body of your bat.
  4. Using your hot glue gun or craft glue, attach the wings to the side of the bat.

Tips

  • When painting your bat, I put the bag on my hand upside down so I could get all the sides easily and then stored it standing up on the empty part.
  • You can customize this however you'd like! I think my next round will be a bunch of little Frankensteins.
  • You can use a larger bag if needed, but the lunch bags hold most small items easily.
  • Make a few extra bags for your kiddos to keep or so that you can 'boo' them too!

What to Put in a Boo Bag

You can put any type of treat or game in a boo bag. In ours we're putting a little kit that our family friends can use to make a fun Halloween-themed treat. Other ideas are bingo cards, a word search printable, a book or even homemade snacks. It doesn't have to be complicated and it shouldn't be expensive. Most of the time you'll pass out 2-3 boo bags and then it's your friends' turn to play so simple is good.

How the Game Works

To play, you want to make sure you print off an instructions card and a card that explains how the game works. I bought this set from Etsy, they have several styles and designs. Or you can make your own and make up your own rules! It also helps to have a little sign or banner you can send along that people can put on their door to show they've been 'booed'. Once you add your card you add a fun little gift or game, and then you do a sneaky drop-off. Once your neighbor has received their 'boo!' it's their turn to put together a little gift and find a house that hasn't been booed yet to tag.

Once you have your little present, instructions and bag ready to go your kiddo can sneak over to the neighbors and try to make a quick get away! Which, is probably their favorite part. Making these little boo bags is a fun way to kick off the celebrations early! I hope you have a 'boo'tiful Halloween!
