Pastels and bright colors are a staple of Easter, and chances are you got a few peeps in your Easter basket or grabbed some at the store just because it's the season. Some people love peeps and some love to hate them. This Peeps Rice Krispie treats recipe gives you the perfect way to use them in a way that everyone will love.
Rice Krispie treats are the first things I ever learned to bake and are such a classic treat. They're buttery and gooey and have just a bit of crunch. Using peeps to make them for Easter is perfect because they can travel to any morning brunch, lunch or egg hunt that you're attending.

Ingredients and Supplies
- Rice Krispie cereal- brand name or generic is fine
- butter- you can use salted if you want a slightly richer flavor
- Peeps in your colors of choice. I used pink, yellow and blue bunny peeps.
- You'll want a stovetop pan handy, a wooden spoon and a peep-shaped cookie cutter. Not required, but is awfully cute and you can use it for sugar cookies too.

Directions
- Cut up your butter and add to your pan. If you're using a nonstick pan you don't need to grease it, but if you're using another type spray it with cooking spray.
- Keep the heat under the pan low, you don't want to rush the butter and marshmallows melting as that will give them a harder consistency.
- Add your peep marshmallows, keeping 4 back. If you add more towards the end of the melting time the color will be a bit stronger. Also if you want a more vibrant color you can add more marshmallows and/or food coloring. Peeps are sugar marshmallows so when they melt they lose some of the color.
- Once the peeps have all melted remove from the pan and add your rice krispies.
- Using a spatula (I recommend a silicone one) gently press the treats into a greased 9x13, or an 8x8 if you want thicker treats.
- After they've cooled, if desired, use your cookie cutter to press into the baked treats and form peep shapes.

Tips for Peeps Rice Krispie Treats
- Remove the 'eyes' from the peeps so you don't have darker dots in your treats.
- Melt the butter and peeps on low heat- don't rush it.
- Use all one color for a theme. If you want to stack the colors you can melt the butter and peeps separately and then combine into a pan.
- Grease the baking dish for easier cleanup.
- Cut into fun shapes like eggs, bunnies or even letters so you can hand out individually or put on a treat board.
