Fall is officially here and I'm looking forward to my daughter's first Halloween! I wanted to make her first costume since I've always loved making them over buying store bought. But let's be honest, she's six months old and I don't have much free time. This DIY Dalmatian costume gives that crafting fix but it's simple and quick. It is perfect for babies and toddlers- and for moms without much time. The best part about it is that this costume uses a onesie I already had, and it won't ruin it for future use. Read on to see how I threw together this simple homemade Dalmatian costume.

Supplies for DIY Dalmatian Costume
- Black felt with sticky backed lining
- White felt
- Baby onesie in white or off white
- Baby stretchy headband
- Scissors- craft scissors work best
- Hot glue gun (this one is cordless!)
Steps
The first step is easy. Cut out spots in different sizes using the black felt. Keep the sticky backing on the felt for now. I made mine mostly round but with different variations so they all looked slightly different! Make small, medium, and large spots. I made approximately 30 spots in total for this DIY Dalmatian costume.
Next, cut out the puppy ears using the white felt. The photo above shows what shape to make them. My DIY Dalmatian costume ears were about 3 inches long. My daughter is only six months old so they did not need to be very big! Once the puppy ears are cut, place the headband on the baby/child who will be wearing the costume, and mark where the ears will be placed on the headband. Take the headband off and heat up the hot glue gun. Fold the very top of each felt ear over the headband, sandwiching the headband in between the felt, and glue closed. I only used the very top of the felt for this, around ¼ inch total.
Lastly, lay out the onesie and start putting the black felt spots on! Peel the backing off of the spots and press them into the onesie. This step is so nice because once finished with the costume, just peel the felt off the onesie and it will be in perfect condition!
DIY Dalmation Costume Finishing Touches
Put the costume and ears on your baby/child and voila! This DIY Dalmatian costume is complete! I also took some black makeup and made a cute little puppy nose on her as a finishing touch. We might not make it to trick or treating this year, but she will definitely be the cutest puppy in town! Please let me know if you make this costume for any of your kiddos in the comments!
