The Starbucks Medicine Ball was originally a 'secret menu' drink. It became so popular that it was added to the full menu as a Honey Citrus Mint Tea. It's also known as a Cold Bomb or Medicine Bomb. This drink is perfect for when you're feeling under the weather, but can also just be a refreshing tea to enjoy. When I'm sick I don't want to leave my house, so learning how to make this drink at home not only saved the trip to the coffee shop, but saves money too.
The thing that makes this tea so popular for kicking a cold is the combination of the citrus, honey and mint flavors. The citrus is added from the Peach Tea and lemonade used in the recipe. I like to use the Simply brand but you could use any brand of that as well, or even make your own. I would stick to the Teavana teas though, as those are the exact ones Starbucks uses.
Ingredients
- Teavana Jade Citrus Mint
- Teavana Peach Tranquility Tea
- Lemonade
- Water
- Honey
Directions
- Pour your ½ cup of lemonade (more or less depending on how much flavor you want in your tea) into a cup and add to the microwave. Heat for two minutes.
- Meanwhile, heat your water on your tea kettle. If you don't have a tea kettle you can add the water to your lemonade, I just prefer to have it boil separately.
- Add your tea sachets to your steaming lemonade.
- Pour the water over the sachets in the glass, until glass is full. You don't have to separate these steps, I just think the boiling water being poured over the sachets helps the steeping process.
- Allow the tea to steep for at least 5 minutes. You can leave it for a bit longer or even leave the tea sachets in the drink.
- Add about a tablespoon (or your desired amount) of honey to your drink. .The honey is really soothing for your throat.
- It is best to enjoy it hot, but be careful as this drink can be very hot/scalding.
Tips for Making a Medicine Ball Tea
- I think it's important to use Teavana tea when making a Starbucks medicine ball tea. Teavana is the same brand Starbucks uses in their stores, as they own it.
- I like to use local honey. I'm not sure if it actually helps with seasonal allergies.. but why not support a local farmer and maybe it will!
- If you want a bit more of a tart flavor, use more lemonade and less water with the tea.
- You can also use a honey stick as the honey will settle at the bottom of the cup.
