How to Make a Book Page Table Runner

This book page table runner was a part of my vintage book baby shower and it was such a pretty accent piece! Using or repurposing old books is a great way to add some dimension and texture to your event. This is an easy craft that anyone can make. All you need for this project are pages from books and some form of glue. That's really it! It's a pretty quick project too- you could make a large runner in about a half hour to 45 minutes. We had about an 18-foot table and another 6ft table and it went really quickly.

We made this open book accent wall too and it all tied together really well! There was moss layered on top of the page runner, but it would have been pretty on its own too. One thing that really helps it stand out is by layering the pages in different directions. My mom actually made this the day before the shower and is sharing her tips below!

Supplies

• book pages- you'll use more than you think but it does depend on your table size. We probably used around 300 pages, but we did have one super long 18-foot table along with another 6-foot table.
• Glue- you can use hot glue, a glue stick or just basic Elmer's glue like we did.

Steps

1. Just start layering a few pages on top of each other and glueing.
2. Change direction every now and then. Some can go horizontally too- it really is just to create texture and some visual diversity. Look for a mix of fonts, styles, paper age, etc. for a bit of contrast.
3. A drape over the edges is pretty- and really accents the runner.
4. Step back every now and then to see how it looks. And keep in mind it is a pretty free flowing project-no two runners will be identical. That is part of the charm.

Tips

• Have a good mix of book pages-from white to cream to vintage “yellowed”. And the same for font type and size.
• Any simple glue will work-we actually just used Elmer’s.
• Have lots more pages than you think you’ll want. It’s a great way to repurpose books that would otherwise get tossed.

I love how it had a waterfall effect hanging over the table! It was a great way to draw attention to the book page table runner!
