Equipment

  • 1 microwave safe bowl
  • 1 silicone mold including 6 2-inch cavities
  • 1 measuring spoon set

Ingredients

  • 2 cups melting wafers in colors of choice I used white, purple, green and orange.
  • 2 tablespoon hot cocoa mix per bomb
  • 1 tablespoon mini marshmallows
  • black icing or royal icing to decorate
  • googley eyes and/or sprinkles to decorate
  • 1 cup hot water or milk

Instructions

Making a Hot Cocoa Bomb

  • Melt your chocolate in the microwave for a minute, then in 20-second increments as needed.
  • Using a spoon, add about a tablespoon of your melted chocolate into the mold cavity, then using the spoon spread it to the rim of the mold. Make sure that the edges are thick enough. After filling the mold, add to the freezer for 10-15 minutes.
  • Heat a plate in the microwave (or a pan on the stovetop.
  • Pop out the chocolate shell from the mold, removing all 6 and setting aside. If you have some that crack a little it's ok, using the hot plate will trim them down. If any crack to an extent you can't use them, set aside and you can remelt them to try again.
  • Take one of the shells and slide and twist it around on the hot plate, melting the edges.
  • Add about a tablespoon of hot cocoa mix, marshmallows and any other additions like sprinkles or candy cane bits to the inside of the shell.
  • Twist the other half of the shell on the hot plate so that its edges will also be slightly melted. (This melted chocolate acts as the glue/sealer.)Press the two shells together, placing the empty one on top of the shell filled with cocoa and marshmallows. If there are gaps in the edges, use a little of the extra melted chocolate on the plate and fill with your finger.

Decorating a Ghost Hot Cocoa Bomb

  • To make a ghost hot chocolate bomb, use your black icing and simply add two eyes and a surprised face. You can make him a smiling ghost too, really up to you! The icing may drip a bit so be ready for a slightly droopy face. If needed add a bit extra icing and use a tooth pick to nudge into place.

Decorating a Bat Hot Cocoa Bomb

  • This little bat is simple but be warned, when you drop him into your cup the wings will come off. :) I used a reeses but you could also use an oreo or mini oreo.
Use a bit of royal icing as glue and adhere the googley eyes in their desired placement. Next, use your icing as glue again and adhere one wing. Allow to dry fully (slightly tipping it on it's side helps) before adding the other side.

Decorating a Pumpkin Hot Cocoa Bomb

  • To make a pumpkin hot cocoa bomb you'll use black icing to add two triangles and a jagged smile to your orange chocolate bomb shell. You can make it as goofy or spooky as you want!

Decorating a Monster Hot Chocolate Bomb

  • This little monster is all sweet and no spooky! Add a 'scar' a smiley face and some wonky hair to your green cocoa bomb. Then use a bit of icing as 'glue' and add a drop to the back of your googley eyes. Add to your cocoa bomb and he's all set!

Serving a Hot Chocolate Bomb

  • To explode your hot chocolate bomb, place your bomb in the bottom of a mug. A clear mug is fun so you can see the full melting process! Add a cup of hot milk or hot water to your bomb and allow to sit briefly while the liquid melts the chocolate shell. The marshmallows will float to the top.
