Yield: 1 baby mobile

Equipment

  • 1 Pair of scissors
  • sturdy needle
  • Tape Measure
  • Pliers optional
  • hot glue gun

Materials

  • 1 Wooden Hoop
  • White String
  • 3 Packages of felt balls different sizes and colors

Instructions

  • Create flowers using the felt balls. Take one center ball and use 5-6 balls as petals for each flower. mix and match colors as desired. Make 10 flowers.
  • Make a pattern for the mobile. Example: flower, simple felt ball, flower, simple felt ball. Repeat 4 different times. This will create the 4 strings hanging down on the mobile. Create an optional 5th string for the center of the mobile.
  • Using the hot glue gun, glue the petals onto the center pieces, forming a full circle around the middle felt ball.
  • Cut out 5 pieces of string, 2 feet in length for each piece.
  • Thread the needle through the string, and tie a tiny knot at the bottom of the string, so the mobile pieces don't fall off once strung.
  • Take the needle and push through the first piece vertically. If it is a flower, try to avoid the petals as much as possible, BUT if necessary, thread through the center ball and any petal that is in placed in the way. The flower should ideally be hanging vertical and centered on the string.
  • Once all 4 pieces are on the string, space them out about 1.5-2 inches apart. There should be just under 1 foot left at the top of the string. Repeat for all 5 strings.
  • Thread each of the 4 outer strings into the hoop wooden hoop. Take the center string and pancake it into the center of the other 4, from the top. Take some time to even out the strings and get the exact placement desired.
  • Knot all of the strings together, so that the wooden hoop is hanging about 8 inches below the top knot.
  • Create a loop about 2.5 inches long, and tie it so that it loops just under the top knot (creating a loop to hang the mobile).
  • Take some extra string and wrap around the knots and the loop, hiding the knots. Keeping wrapping around the knots until they are fully covered and completely satisfied with the look. Make a tiny knot at the top and then tuck it under the wrapped string.
  • Lastly, hang the mobile and position the wooden hoop exactly where desired. Take the hot glue gun and glue underneath the hoop where each string is threaded through. Use only a small amount of glue! This will stabilize the hoop and keep it centered. If any of the felt pieces are slipping on the string, repeat this same step of adding a tiny bit of glue just under each piece.
  • Enjoy the mobile!!

Notes

Tips: If you are struggling to thread the needle through the felt balls, use pliers to help pull the needle all the way through!
