Equipment

  • 1 knife
  • 1 fork
  • 1 baking sheet

Ingredients

  • 1 sheet Puff pastry- this is in the freezer section. this is in the freezer section. You'll use one sheet to make 3 toaster strudels.
  • 3 tablespoon Jam in flavor of choice, I used strawberry since I wanted a patriotic stars and stripes look.
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • 1 tablespoon Powdered sugar
  • 2 teaspoon water to mix with powdered sugar to create glaze.
  • sprinkles for decorating.

Instructions

  • Thaw your pastry puff following the packaging instructions.
  • Cut into 6 rectangles and line on your baking sheet.
  • Make your egg wash by combining a splash of milk with an egg. Brush or spoon on the egg wash to the tops of 3 of the pastry puff rectangles.
  • Using a knife, cut slits into the pastry puff shell that has the egg wash on it. Using a fork, make little indentations for the 'stars'. You'll fill with sprinkles but this gives you an idea of where to place them. You don't have to do this part but I found it helpful.
  • Add jam to the bottom layer that does not have the egg wash on it.
  • Stack the top of your toaster strudel or poptart onto the bottom piece of pastry puff.
  • Next, using a fork, close the toaster strudel but gently pressing down. If its stick add a bit a flour to the fork.
  • Then, bake for 18-20 minutes at 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Make your icing by combining water and powdered sugar and a bit of vanilla. Drizzle over the top of the toaster strudel along the lines of the flag. Add sprinkles as the stars.
